Maybe this is your first time visiting my blog. If it is, you should know that this post officially brings the total count for posts involving my dear friend and talented photographer, Alix, to such a ridiculous number that it should be worthy of its own blog category. That is not an accident, by the way. Alix has become over the past two years my partner in photographic experimentation – she understands my personal vision and [seems to] enjoy not only taking an active part in it – but also pushing it forward. And when I told her I was (finally) able to offer studio lighting options (head = exploding) she literally raced over to partake in some strobe action.

If you are at all familiar with me or my work you’ll know that light is an obsession of mine. Directional light, quality of light, the absence of light – as a photographer I see things in terms of their relationship to the light that falls upon them. So even though nothing can compare with the unique aesthetic of natural light, there is also nothing so sublime as being able to control every ounce of it in your own space. This is why the ability to have a studio is the yin to my wedding/portrait on-location yang. And there will be much more to come soon on the progress of this offering (the wheres and the hows) and how clients can fully take advantage of this option – because you definitely should! Introducing this concept as part of my client collections is a huge unveiling for me – one that it still being carefully designed. But for now, these photos are truly (truly) just a little bit of badass in a cold dark place. And honestly, I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful, willing and versatile subject. She is sexy and confident. She is daring, vulnerable, amazingly feminine and sometimes incredibly androgynous. In short, she is a photographer’s dream.

I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed shooting them. Because I really, REALLY enjoyed it.
